The ideal ramen shop is about more than just what’s in the bowl. Obviously, the character of the ramen itself is crucial, but for us it’s also about ambience, location and, importantly, the prospect of beer. Tanpopo, in its own laid-back way, ticks all the boxes — fresh, bouncy noodles submerged in deep remedial broths; a cosy, warmly lit space; a slightly sequestered, downtown address; and bottles of Asahi, Kirin and Sapporo at the ready. A little, glowing shop that does it all.
