This cafe is all about the coffee. You’ll likely be lured inside by the wafting aroma of beans roasting on-site. Behind the counter, the centrepiece is a striking black-and-gold coffee roaster, operated by Lan Nguyen, who oversees the roasting of a dazzling variety of beans (which you can choose from). At times, there will be a selection of homemade cakes or pastries perched on the counter, but the focus here is unmistakably on the coffee. Authentic Vietnamese coffees are a highlight, such as a traditional impressively creamy iced coffee or cà phê sữa đá (Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk) — here it’s bold, robust coffee and creamy sweetness in perfect harmony. Whatever espresso coffee you have here will be executed sharply, and the pour-over, served in dainty glass cups that feel almost ceremonial, is a must-try. There is also a range of more elusive specials, like the pink salt foam coffee, a uniquely rich, slightly salty treat. They’re also open slightly later than most cafes, too, which is just another reason we’re so into this place.
