Desa Corner might still be fairly new to the Karangahape Rd neighbourhood, but we visit with such frequency that, to us at least, it feels like it’s been here forever. The deal here is Mamak-style food ordered via little slips of paper, in a roomy setting that’s heavy on wooden accents — unfussy and swish all at once. Its food — nasi lemak, mee goreng, nasi goreng, curries served with gossamer-like roti, to name a few options — is all yum enough to jolt you out of any bad mood or bout of weariness you might find yourself in. We are recent converts to the murtabak, consisting of spiced mince enveloped by a square roti, which is sliced up chequerboard-style and accompanied by a concentrated curry for dipping. Downright heavenly.
