Atomic coffee

This is one of the most pleasantly surprising public spaces downtown. How to find it? At the Albert St end of Commercial Bay on the first floor is a nondescript escalator leading up to the accountants’ turf. At the top of the escalator, a huge, light-filled, double-height space opens up with walls of glass and access to a serene rooftop. On an island in the middle sits Spectra, a sharply run cafe with attractive furnishings, great service and an uncomplicated menu. It’s clearly designed to serve the suits who stream into it from the elevators surrounding the space, but anyone can go and we recommend doing that, especially if you find yourself walking bewildered through the Commercial Bay crowds and hankering for a good coffee and peaceful moment to yourself in a dramatically proportioned space.
