While Hugo Baird’s other restaurant, Lilian, is usually too busy for you to pop into solely for a drink, he has transformed the old Augustus spot (which for decades was Ponsonby’s Post Office) into a sprawling “public bar, bistro and beer garden”, with plenty of room for all types of eating and drinking. It doesn’t hurt that the interior is beautiful as well, with the tiled floors and soft lamp lighting delivering major luxe vacation vibes alongside your pint of Parrotdog, on tap.
