Good Day

Good Day is open seven days a week, which must make for a great daily morning routine for the locals: wake up, walk the dog along the water’s edge and stop in at Good Day for a flat white and a toastie. It’s a compact, welcoming-looking sort of place, with art on the walls, a blue-cushioned bench running along the side of the room and big windows at the back that let plenty of sun into the kitchen onwards. Most things here involve bread, whether it’s the doorstop toastie or house-made baked beans on sourdough. Happily, the way the menu sticks to the basics means you can have a sit-down breakfast or lunch here for less than $20 — a rarity in the Auckland cafe scene. Sometimes simplicity is best.
