The Grounds restaurant review: Metro Top 50 2019

May 2, 2019 Restaurants

The Grounds is a finalist in the Metro Peugeot Restaurant of the Year 2019 awards for Best Neighbourhood Restaurant. To see a full rundown of all our winners, click here.

Run by two self-described “West Auckland family men”, Ben Bayly (executive chef at Baduzzi ) and Mike “The Russian” Shatura (former head chef at The Grove ), The Grounds is a family-friendly restaurant, providing refined, accessible food to young families (and the young-family-tolerant). Set on a beautiful two-hectare plot in Henderson, the large, modern dining area opens up to a wide courtyard designed for parents to eat and drink in peace while keeping a semi-watchful eye over their kids who are off climbing and jumping all over the hi-tech playground. The Grounds was designed to win the custom of parents who ‘can’t take their kids anywhere’; the fact that the food (and the wine list) is as good as this is unexpected, but very welcome.

What it offers: Group set-menu / Shared-plate options / Good for vegetarians and vegans / Takes large bookings / Outdoor dining / Good for children

A favourite dish: Crispy squid with chilli mayo, mustard and lemon

Hours: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Wed-Sun
Bookings: dinner only; large groups for breakfast and lunch
Price: $$
Chef: Ben Bayly, executive chef; Mike Shatura, head chef

8/14 Henderson Valley Rd
