Rocket coffee

While the days of High St’s cafe peak are now lost in the mists of time, all is not lost for the workers and visitors to this once-essential part of the city. Hidden deep inside a nondescript ground-floor corridor, the Chuffed space initially presents as a slightly undersized and cramped cafe, stuffed into the unwanted bottom corner of one of High St’s unspectacular office buildings. Once inside, however, you realise it opens out on a covered deck area that is somehow both airy and cosy at the same time. Ample staff bustle around, keeping what appears to be a loyal clientele fed, caffeinated and happy in the knowledge they are frequenting one of Auckland’s last secret spaces. The menu is interesting, but even the simplest dishes are considered and carefully prepared, lending the experience of eating here a significance you’d be forgiven for thinking no longer existed in this part of town.
