Chu Long Ji

The North Shore is oddly under-represented in this annual Under $25 list, especially considering there are pockets with plenty of Asian restaurants and businesses — you can go full days without seeing a white person. Chu Long Ji is a steady favourite, though, and it’s where we direct people if they’ve just returned from Australia and tried Din Tai Fung’s xiaolongbao for the first time — Chu Long Ji is the closest you’ll find to it, with paper-thin skin and perfectly uniform pleats that beckon alluringly from its bamboo steamers. We get at least three orders of them between two, stacking the steamers on top of each other and puncturing the wrappers to slurp up the soup inside them — in between slurping up soup from the bowls of noodles you’ll probably order on the side.
