The Blue Breeze Inn restaurant review: Metro Top 50 2019

May 2, 2019 Restaurants

The Blue Breeze Inn is a finalist in the Metro Peugeot Restaurant of the Year 2019 awards for Best Casual Restaurant. To see a full rundown of all our winners, click here.

The Blue Breeze Inn is a fun option for a casual lunch or social dinner in Ponsonby. It has a large outdoor area with a variety of seating options, the service is friendly and efficient, and the food is bold and flavoursome Asian fusion with enough quirks to keep things interesting. Chef Che Barrington has a good knack for nailing the hot/sour/salty/sweet flavour balance – the smoked tofu salad with herbs and sesame and black vinegar dressing is a highlight. The Blue Breeze Inn is standing the test of time for a reason: you’ll always have a good time here. Whether on the street-side balcony, or inside around the Tiki bar, it’s likely to be busy, loud and fun.

What it offers: Private dining / Shared-plate options / Takes large bookings / Outdoor dining / Bar

A favourite dish: Stir-fried market fish with pickled mustard greens, school prawns, coriander and chilli

Metro N°440 is out now!

With progressive councillors starting to score some wins under what was anticipated to be a reactionary major, Hayden Donnell asks: Has Wayne Brown gone woke?
Plus: we go out and investigate Auckland’s nightlife (or in some cases, the lack thereof), with best bars (with thanks to Campari); going-out diaries from Chlöe Swarbrick, BBYFACEKILLA.mp3, Poppa.Jax & more; a look into Auckland’s drugs by Don Roew (who’s holding and how much they paid for it); we go on the campaign trail with Willie Jackson, talk to gallerist Michael Lett, drink martinis and alternative wines, start seeing a therapist, visit Imogen Taylor’s studio, look into Takutai Tarsh Kemp’s wardrobe. And more!
