Depot Eatery & Oyster Bar
SkyCity, 88 Federal St, City. Ph 363-7048.

It’s open from 7am till late, and full most of the time with happy customers. It serves impeccably cooked Kiwiana food — freshly shucked oysters, little fish burgers called sliders, meltingly good lamb ribs — and there’s good sauvignon blanc and pinot noir on tap. Every now and then a restaurant redefines how good eating out can be: Depot, the creation of Wellington chef Al Brown, has done that for Auckland, and we’re thrilled.
