Even regulars at Madame George who crowd around the noisy streetside tables on K’ Rd for drinks and snacks could be forgiven for not realising they’re sitting at one of Auckland’s best restaurants. Inside, the shabby-chic interior produces a soft and welcoming ambience that can feel like you’re eating in the home of a friend who just happens to be both an amazing cook and an eagle-eyed op-shopper. The food changes frequently, but is anchored by seafood and vegetables with an ever-changing red-meat option, combining local produce with a South American influence which seeps into the inventive drinks list, most obviously seen in the multiple options for pisco-based cocktails.
