Occupying an industrial warehouse space in Grey Lynn, Ozone Coffee Roasters is a big, energetic community hub. Those who dine in will be treated to the cafe’s theatrics, with chefs neatly plating up dishes in the open kitchen at the cafe’s centre, baristas leaning studiously over cups of coffee, and, behind a glass wall, the occasional whirr of the roastery at work. Drama! The coffee menu here is vast and somewhat intimidating (just ask for help if you’re unsure what direction to take) — from V60 and AeroPress to filter, cold brew and espresso — in a variety of novel blends. The ethos here is low waste, meaning a bunch of seasonal, sustainable, fermented and repurposed ingredients appear in dishes that are off-beat, earthy and thoroughly tasty.
