SPQR Ponsonby

Lunch & dinner 7 days. $$

The thing we really like about SPQR is that, despite its reputation as the bar to see and and be seen in, it’s really all about the food. Deliciously big-flavoured Italian dishes, from the delightfully intricate entrées to the smart and incredibly moreish pizzas, through to pastas all thrillingly zingy with chilli and garlic and lemon… it’s a great place to eat.

Actually, honestly? The thing we like about SPQR is that the food’s great and so’s the wine list and so are the cocktails. It’s such a good bar. Truly honestly? It’s the food and the drinks and, you know, after all these years, it’s still a perfect spot to see and be seen. If it was easy, they’d all be doing it.

A favourite dish: scampi tail linguini.
