Metro is Hiring!

Aug 8, 2023 What's On

Metro magazine, a leading lifestyle and current affairs publication in Auckland, is looking for a dynamic and results-driven Audience Development Manager to join our team.

This critical role will be responsible for driving subscription sales growth and executing effective subscription marketing strategies. They will be innovative and adaptable, identifying opportunities where Metro can grow sales, readership and activity so our audience is more deeply engaged with the brand. While this will initially be primarily focused on ensuring a wider subscriber base, our ideal candidate will also be able to help plan and coordinate various events which support our audience growth, including the prestigious annual Restaurant of the Year awards dinner, as well as general marketing duties when required.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the success of Metro magazine, managing a comprehensive audience development strategy that will increase our readership but also the presence of the Metro brand in Auckland and across Aotearoa.

The candidate must be a self-starter who has an eye for detail, with a deep understanding of New Zealand’s media landscape and, ideally, Auckland life. We’re looking for someone creative, with an ability to work autonomously within a small team.

This is a full-time, permanent position to be worked at our office on Karangahape Rd (pictured), though hours and flexi remote working is negotiable for the right candidate.

Please email your CV and a cover letter to hello@metromagazine.co.nz. Applications will be considered as they roll in, so do not delay.

Primary responsibilities

Develop strategies to drive new annual subscription sales and retain our existing audience, exploring various channels for growth via partnerships, sponsors, social, SEO, newsletters, events, membership and more.

Conduct market research and analyse customer preferences and market trends to identify opportunities, using data findings to adjust sales strategies accordingly.

Work with the sales team to coordinate subscription offers and packages.

Collaborate with the editorial team to inform them on content opportunities and areas that could be improved upon to help drive subscriptions, plus work jointly on crafting compelling copy and other content to showcase the value of Metro’s subscriptions.

Utilise digital marketing, social media, email marketing and other channels when appropriate to execute marketing campaigns in promoting subscriptions and quarterly issue releases in line with agreed budgets and targets.

Manage the end-to-end planning and execution of the annual Restaurant of the Year awards dinner, including coordinating vendors, sponsors and venues logistics. Also organise smaller events (such as pop-up dining events and sponsor activations), with the end goal of engaging with our existing audience and attracting new subscribers.

Desired experience

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or a related field.

Proven experience in subscription sales, preferably in a media or publishing environment.

Demonstrated success in developing and executing subscription marketing strategies.
