Best of Auckland this week: Late Night Christmas, Studio One Toi Tu Makers Market and a bash

Dec 13, 2019 What's On

?Sick of us harping on about Christmas yet? Well, sorry, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles when there’s less than two weeks till That Day. There are laneway parties, holiday gigs, and a few more opportunities to snag that last-minute present.

Hopetown Laneway Party

Don’t recognise anyone on the actual Laneway lineup because you’re old and uncool now? Get back a taste of your wasted youth by heading along to the Hope Town laneway day party at Hopetoun Alpha, with a DJ set by Lord Echo and sets from Our of Sorts, Peach Milk, Te Huhu and more.
Saturday 14 December | 19 Beresford Square

Studio One Toi Tu Makers Market

You know what, there are so many cool artists making cool shit in this city and too often we take that for granted – but it’s actually pretty hard to make a living making ceramics or taking photos or whatever and if we don’t buy the stuff artists make they may not be able to keep making it. So with that in mind, head along to Ponsonby this Saturday and buy something by a local maker – because you’ve got to buy your mum a Christmas present, because you need it or just because.
Saturday 14 December | 1 Ponsonby Rd

Late Night Crushes Party

We totally have a crush on Crushes, a shop full of vintage and locally made goodies along K’ Rd. Pick your Christmas gifts (and a few for yourself too – you’ve earned it!) and relax with a beer while the team at Crushes wraps them for you. Ideal, really.
Tuesday 17 December | 225 Karangahape Rd

Late Night Christmas

Look, we all like to think we’re the kind of person who gets their Christmas shopping done in a timely manner but the invisible hand of the market knows us better than we know ourselves. That’s why 150 shops will be open in the CBD the Thursday before Christmas Day (it’s the following Wednesday). There will also be special in store offers and performances around the city centre.
Thursday 19 December | Central city

1:12 Xmas Bash

It’s been relentlessly hot and humid lately, so why not lean into feeling sweaty and uncomfortable by heading underground to Whammy Bar and cramming yourself in with 14 punk and psych bands and countless other punters for a night of live music and moshing out.
Friday 20 December | Whammy Bar, K’ Rd
